Unger received Shop, named after the most famous Wisconsin ice
cream when he was a small puppy, and since then the both have always been
together. Now, at 19 years of age, Schoep has arthritis and difficulty in
sleeping, as reported by Pioneer Press. Unger then discovered that the warm
water is therapeutic for his painful friend, so he takes Schoep to Lake
Superior and puts him to sleep.

I had about 5 minutes to shoot and that’s what I captured in my
camera, “a man and his dog”. Jean loves his dog Schoep, and Schoep
trusts Jean so much that he falls asleep in the buoyancy of the chilly lake
water. Stonehouse Hudson decided to post this amazing photo on Facebook, where she
described the romantic relationship.

This 19-year-old Schoep, cribbed in her father’s arms at night in
Lake Superior, she writes in the Facebook post, which received more than
207,000 likes and 116,000 shares as of Wednesday morning. Donations and charities
started pouring in from around the globe, which allowed Unger to pursue and
check other methods of joint pain management that gave him another year with
his beloved Schoep.

She falls asleep every night when he is transported into the warm
lake water. The buoyancy of the water calms her arthritic bones. Lake Superior
is very hot these days, so the water temperature is perfect. I was so happy to
have been able to capture this moment and save on my camera for John. John
saved Shep at the age of just 8 months, and he has been with her through many
adventures of life. Although Schoep is gone now, the love behind that photo can

Stonehouse Hudson regularly photographs dogs, their playful moments
as part of his profession. She offers sessions for pets and often takes
pictures of dogs at various weddings. To make the same thing, she makes free
animal shoots that are kind of a difficult place for local shelters.

frozen and stuck at that time. It is an eternal reminder forever.

I want everyone to identify with this emotional picture and
remember a time when they felt safe, loved and cared for says, Stonehouse
Hudson. “So I want them to channel these feelings, emotions and transmit them.
There is far too much negativity in this world, maybe with this one amazing
picture, we can start to change things just a little bit and make everyone
positive.”
